Petilla, kinastigo sa pag-aabogado sa Meralco

Binatikos ng isang party-list solon si Department of Energy (DoE) Secretary Jericho Petilla sa umano’y suhestiyon nito sa Manila Electric Company (Meralco) na iapela ang dalawang buwang temporary restraining order (TRO) na ipinalabas ng Supreme Court sa pagpapatupad ng P4.15 per kilowatt hour (kWh) ng Meralco.



“We are aghast and dismayed at the statement made by Department of Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla urging Meralco to appeal the 60-day TRO issued by the Supreme Court (SC),” pahayag ni ACT-Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio.

Ayon sa militanteng mambabatas, ipinanukala ni Petilla sa Meralco na iapela ang TRO imbes na mangutang para mabayaran ang mga energy supplier kung saan ang interes ay ipapasa sa mga consumer.

“Such line of reasoning reveals that Petilla himself considers the rate increase to be legitimate and above board, when it is in fact the subject of an ongoing investigation by the DoE. Petilla has therefore preempted his own investigation and exposed it as a sham with a predetermined conclusion,” aniya.

Una nang itinatag ni Petilla ang isang tripartite commission na binubuo ng DoE, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) at Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) upang imbestigahan ang big time power rate hike na resulta umano ng kutsabahan ng ilang energy stakeholder.

Giit pa ni Tinio na base sa pahayag ni Petilla, pinangungunahan nito ang Korte Suprema na magdedesisyon pa lamang sa mga petisyon kung saan kinukuwestiyon ang constitutionality ng pinakamalaking dagdag-singil sa kuryente sa kasaysayan.
