Hinimok ni Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Vice President at Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas ang kaparian na magpokus sa paglalapit kay Kristo sa mga tao at sa pagtupad sa misyon ng simbahan na maging “conscience of society” imbes na makisangkot sa pulitika.
“The Church should never be a kingmaker, a power broker in the world because if the Church will marry a political party, the church will become a widow in the next generation,” sabi ni Villegas sa isang artikulo na ipinaskil sa website ng CBCP.
“The Church can never do that because it is the bride of Christ…(It) was founded by Jesus Christ, and it has a spiritual mission in the world. The church is in the world, but the Church does not belong to this world for it belongs to the world of God,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Archbishop Villegas na ang simbahan ay dapat na magsilbing konsensiya ng lipunan.
“What do we mean when we say we are the conscience of society? We say that we bring soul into society,” aniya. “The Lord said, ‘What will profit a man if he gains the whole world but suffers the loss of his soul?’ Put together all the money and property in the world, you could not bring that to your grave.”
Binigyang diin din ni Villegas na ang ispiritwal na misyon ng simbahan ay maipadama ang pag-aaruga at pagmamalasakit sa kapwa. – Leslie Ann Aquino
