Inaasahang makadaragdag sa bigat ng trapiko sa ilang lansangan sa Metro Manila ang paglalatag ng 24/7 police checkpoint sa mga estratehikong lugar laban sa mga kriminal na gumagamit ng motorsiklo sa pagtakas.
Sinabi ni Director Carmelo Valmoria, hepe ng National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), na nagpalabas na siya ng memorandum sa limang district director sa Metro Manila para paigtingin ang police visibility laban sa mga kriminal na sakay sa motorsiklo.
“Each police station should have at least three dedicated teams that will only focus in the conduct mobile checkpoints. I expect this to be implemented 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the soonest possible time,” sabi ni Valmoria.
Ang bawat team, aniya, ay dapat na binubuo ng walong unipormadong pulis.
Nilinaw ni Valmoria na hindi magbubukas ng mga police checkpoint sa mga pangunahing lansangan ng Metro Manila dahil makadaragdag lang ito sa problema sa trapiko.
“The checkpoints will include all motor vehicles but our priority, actually, are the motorcycles. We believe that this is a best crime deterrent against motorcycle riding criminals,” ani Valmoria.
Babala ni Valmoria, ang mga police commander na hindi tutugon sa kanyang direktiba ay agad na sisibakin sa puwesto.
“I will be making surprise rounds to see and monitor compliance. So this should serve as a warning that they must comply, and they must do their job well and in compliance with the existing police procedures in the conduct of checkpoints,” pahayag ng NCRPO chief.
Sinabi naman ni Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP public information officer, na ang kakulangan ng plaka para sa mga bagong motorsiklo ang isa sa mga dahilan sa pagdami ng krimen na kinasasangkutan ng mga riding-in-tandem.
