EVIL MACHINES

arlie-calalo41 SOME 59 ‘evil machines’ or more popularly known as ‘video karera’ were crushed to pieces by the Northern Police District before National Capital Region Police Office Director Carmelo Valoria and key police officials on Thursday at the district headquarters.

To erase doubt that the machines were emptied with the electronic devices before they were destroyed, NPD director Chief Supt. Edgar Layon even turned on most of the machines to show to those present including members of the Camanava Press Corps that they were functioning.

According to Gen. Layon, the destruction of the evil machines was the result of the relentless effort of different police stations within NPD’s turf to rid their respective jurisdictions of such illegal gambling. He says: “We have shown to the public that these seized machines were totally destroyed and could no longer be used again as what had been alleged in the past.”

The visibly-elated NCRPO chief was all praises for Gen. Layon and the four police station chiefs, namely, Senior Supt. Bernard Tambaoan (Caloocan), Senior Supt. Severino Abad Jr. (Malabon), Sr. Supt. Conrado Gongon (Navotas) and Sr. Supt. Rhoderick Armamento (Valenzuela) “for a job well done.”

Also during the event, the top police officials led in the weekly assessment on Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS) which was NCRPO’s latest strategy designed to reduce the commission of street crimes, says Supt. Bong Dimalanta, NPD’s public information officer.

He told this writer that NCRPO’s senior officers and key officials from NPD and other police districts in the national capital region had gathered to evaluate, find solutions and formulate policies to fight and reduce crimes in the Metropolis.

Swift Response

Swift response by the police and Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco has resulted in the safe rescue of a seven-year-old boy who was held hostage Wednesday afternoon by his own mentally-ill grandfather.

This, as Mayor Tiangco and Gen. Layon have commended the members of the city police for acting on the incident with dispatch and swiftly.

“With the swift and immediate response by our policemen, the seven-year-old boy has been rescued unharmed and so the hostage-taker who happened to be the victim’s own grandfather,” the mayor says.

Reports showed the mayor hurriedly alerted the police about the incident that was taking place inside a residence in Tabing Dagat, Barangay San Jose wherein the knife-wielding suspect, 55-year-old Alejandro de Antonio, was holding his own grandson hostage.

Wasting no time, Mayor Tiangco rushed to the scene and immediately supervised the negotiation being made by the local police officers. As the mentally-ill suspect was demanding to talk to his daughter, Jenny, the victim’s mother, while poking the knife to her son’s head, it was at this juncture when the lawmen took advantage of the situation subdued the suspect and brought the victim to a safe place.
