IT sounds illogical a position of the SM management which turns to be uncooperative instead of helping a victim to build a strong case of robbery against the suspects.
Lawyer Donald Diaz of Malcolm Law Office, the counsel for a lady government pediatrician who positively identified one of the four arrested suspects who stole the sports utility vehicle of former Quezon City representative Mat Defensor as the person who robbed her of P500,000 of pieces of jewelry and other personal belongings, and P50,000 cash money on Dec. 31 in a broad daylight, was stunned by the mall’s stance.
“We were told to file a petition in court by the mall management. Why?” he asked. He then appealed for cooperation instead of refusing to help them build a strong case of robbery in band against the suspects.
Noel Delosa, 34, was one of the four persons who choked her at gunpoint inside her CRV van, took away her expensive valuables and withdrew P50,000 from her ATM savings account at the SM Megamall-Building B’s third-level car park in Mandaluyong City on New Year’s Eve at 12:30 p.m.
Atty. Diaz laments that they requested a copy of the video footage of mall’s closed-circuit television, to no avail.
Increased revenues in Navotas
THE Navotas City government has revealed that it’s expecting to generate much bigger revenues for this year owing to the efficient tax collection and more and new businesses.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco, of course, has to give much credit on the initial development of the city to his older brother and now Rep. Toby Tiangco.
It was during the incumbency of the older Tiangco, who held the city’s top post for more than a decade, when Navotas which used to be a municipality was transformed into a highly-urbanized city in the national capital region.
The former city chief executive-turned-lawmaker had put in place several measures and programs that made the city more competitive and progressive as compared with other local government units all over the country.
“We cannot deny the fact that the former mayor has contributed immensely to the development of Navotas which had its modern City Hall building built during his time, among others,” says Mayor Tiangco of his brother.
Going back to the city’s targeted income, the mayor says the local government was optimistic it can generate over P670 million in revenues for this year.
Asked about the factors behind the increased revenues, the mayor says it was mainly due to efficient and intensified tax collection being conducted by city’s tax collecting bureau.
“In general, we have an organized LGU here in Navotas, we have a system that we strictly follow especially in tax payments, hence, more taxpayers are paying their obligations promptly and religiously,” Mayor Tiangco explains.
Besides, the city chief executive cites that more business establishments have sprouted in the city which contributed largely to the sharp increase in revenues.
