Hiniling ng grupong Save the Children sa administrasyong Aquino na gumawa ng karampatang hakbang kaugnay ng napaulat na child prostitution umano sa evacuation center sa Zamboanga City.

“We call on the government, camp managers and other aid organizations to implement greater measures to protect children after reports of child prostitution, assault and trafficking in evacuation centres in the conflict zone,” saad sa pahayag ng Save the Children.



Binanggit ng grupo na aabot sa 110,000 katao, na 40,000 sa mga ito ay bata, ang napilitang lumikas at tumuloy sa mga evacuation center makaraang magsimula ang kaguluhan at paglalaban ng militar at mga miyembro ng Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) noong Setyembre 9.

“These displaced children have been through a terrible ordeal of fleeing their homes due to armed conflict. They are frightened, distressed and may not understand what is happening around them. Yet they are now faced with other major threats such as sexual assault, abuse and trafficking,” sabi ni Ariel Balofinos, program manager ng Save the Children sa Mindanao.

“Our team, partners and local newspapers on the ground have reported case of rape, attempted rape and child prostitution in recent days, which are simply intolerable,” sabi ni Balofinos.

“All children, regardless of their situation, have the right to feel safe and protected. This means a roof over their heads, private sleeping and bathing areas, and a safe space to play and learn,” dagdag pa ni Balofinos.
