PINIRA-PIRASO ng Bureua of Customs (BOC) ang may P50-milyong halaga ng pekeng branded shoes at tsinelas na ipinuslit sa Pilipinas may isang taon na ang nakararaan.
Sa pahayag ng BOC kaninang umaga (Pebrero 24), mahigit 150,000 pares ng smuggled counterfeit products ng kilalang tatak na tulad ng Nike, Adidas, Converse, Sketchers, The North Face, Leaveland. Merrell, Lacoste, Vans, Havianas at Ipanema ang winasak.
Sinabi ni Customs Commissioner John Sevilla na: “The shipments were subjected to a series of hearing yet it was a no show for any representative of the claimant, so these fake items were forfeited and destroyed.”
Ang kontrabando ay nakumpiska noong Pebrero 2014 mula sa Warehouse 4 sa Olivares Compound sa ParaƱaque City.
“We seized the warehouse to check the legality of the importation of goods, but the owner failed to produce proof of payment of duties and taxes from Customs.
“Consequently, the warehouse was padlocked and sealed for BOC custody,” pahayag ni Sevilla.
Ang pagsalakay ng BOC ay suporatado ng isang Warrant of Seizure and Detention sa paglabag ng Sections 2530 at 101 ng Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines.
Noong nakaraang Abril 2014, ginutay ng BOC ang mahigit sa 200 boxes ng imported shoes na nakumpiska sa Port of Davao matapos na madiskubre ang kargamento na mula sa China ay high-quality knockoffs. ROBERT TICZON
