QC’S DIAMOND JUBILEE

QUEZON City Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista and the Sangguniang Panlunsod have partnered to come up with a resolution primarily aimed at effectively promoting its rich cultural, historical and artistic wealth in time for the city’s diamond jubilee celebration.

Noting the importance of the city’s cultural history in making its people proud of its uniqueness, the mayor is determined to keep all QC’s historical treasures protected, preserved and, at the same time known to all, especially school children.

For her part, Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte, the council’s presiding officer, says the Sanggunian has come up with a measure which will task the city’s tourism department and the Division of City Schools to come up with a program designed to promote the rich cultural, historical and artistic wealth as part of the celebration of the 75th founding anniversary of the city this October.

Mayor Bistek explains that the growth of a city can not only be measured on account of its financial stability, with the high skyscrapers that fenced the city’s territory and the standard of living that its constituents enjoy, but also by being aware of the rich well-preserved historical treasures of the city that characterize places in QC.

“We have a rich cultural heritage, and therefore there is a need to educate our young constituents to open their mind on the importance of the city’s history, culture and arts so they will also be proud of the city’s past,” the city chief executive says.

To conserve and preserve QC’s historical treasure, the city council has approved Resolution No. SP-5997, S-2014 urging the QC Division of City Schools and the city’s Tourism Department to prepare programs teaching the city’s history, culture and arts as part of the city’s 75th founding anniversary, Vice-Mayor Belmonte says.

Quezon City has a rich historical, cultural and artistic heritage that residents of the city should be proud of, according to the daughter of ex-mayor and now House Speaker Sonny Belmonte.

In celebration of the city’s founding anniversary, the local government through the resolution seeks to encourage young learners to open their minds on the relevance of commemorating historical events most significant to the historical, cultural and artistic heritage, and progress of the city.

The book entitled “The City With A Soul” written by Ma. Luisa T. Camagay shall serve as the main source of reference about the past and early traditions of QC, the resolution says. GOOD RIDDANCE/Arlie O. Calalo
