PNP-CIDG Director Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong is surely one of the most effective and efficient officials in the entire police organization. Magalong comes like a whiff of fresh air especially now that the trust and acceptance by the public of the PNP organization is in the downward spiral.
His no nonsense campaign against criminality, including those against his fellow officers, is however winning the hearts and trust of the people. He is now handling the investigation of his fellow PNP officers, for their alleged involvement in the mysterious disappearance of some 900 high powered AK-47 and M-16 rifles from the PNP armory.
Magalong claimed that they are now in the “homestretch” of their investigation on the missing firearms and are now determining who would be charged in court. That move reportedly already won a nod of approval from President Aquino himself.
Also recently, the CIDG also filed cases of rape, robbery extortion, unlawful arrest, arbitrary detention and violation of the anti-graft law against six Manila cops. The policemen arrested Vincent Samson for his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade during an operation they conducted in Sta. Ana last month.
While inside the police station, the cops demanded P50,000 from Samson in exchange for his release. After some haggling, the six lawmen agreed to lower their demand to P3,000 but not before forcing Samson’s wife to have sex with one of them.
Magalong was also responsible for the arrest of Chief Inspector Bienvenido Reydado, head of CIDG-Pampanga and his six civilian henchmen for allegedly “recycling” shabu seized from suspected drug traffickers in the province.
Even Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. praised Magalong by declaring that his action showed that the PNP is determined to clean its ranks of erring members. Magalong for his part vowed they will not relent in their campaign against criminality even as they are now focusing their attention to 12 high-profile criminal groups operating in the country.
Because of his many feats and with the kind of work that he is doing, Magalong is certainly one tough and dedicated PNP official, we can expect more effective law enforcement which is what the people deserve from the PNP.
