TR-CP completed a sweep of the McKinley Hill Invitational elimination with an emphatic 107-52 win over HP-FCS at the Dumlao Gym in Shaw Boulevard.
Ian Ples bounced back after a sub-par performance with 19 points to lead TR-CP’s balanced attack.
“We really want to get the twice-to-beat incentive that’s why we came out hard from the opening tip,” said Ples.
With its vaunted defense rattling the guards of HP-FCS, TR-CP raced to a 25-4 lead in the opening frame. Aaron Molo and Chao Menguito combined for 18 points in the first quarter to lead TR-CP’s early charge.
James Gregorio and Cholo Legisma took over in the second period with 13 and 9 respectively as TR-CP put the game away, 53-19.
HP-FCS dropped out of contention after finishing the elimination with 2-3 win-loss mark. It was good enough to tie EBT and Statestreet HCL for the third best record in the league, but HP-FCS ended up with the worst tiebreak total among the three.
TR-CP carries the twice-to-beat advantage in its semifinal clash with Statestreet on November 15.
In other games, Perry Dominguez scored 23 points to lift EBT past winless CBPS and into the semifinals while Erlan Oliva and Joseph Santiago presided over a huge second quarter run for Factset to turn a close game into a 109-61 rout of Statestreet HCL. Noli Cruz
