ISINULONG ng ilang kongresista ang pagbuhay sa mandatory Reserved Offices Training Corps (ROTC).
Ito’y sa gitna ng unti-unti paggalaw ng Chinese Military sa Kagitingan Reef kabilang ang kinukwestyong Kalayaan group of islands o mas kilala bilang Spratlys.
Sinabi ni Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian na ang mandatory ROTC sa mga estudyanteng lalaki na nasa kolehiyo ay maaaring “the Government may call upon the people to defend the State and, in fulfillment thereof, all citizens may be required, under conditions provided by law, to render personal, military or civil service.”
Inihain ni Gatchalian ang House Bill No. 2338 kung saan iminungkahi nito na muling ibilang sa curriculum sa college degree at vocational courses ang dalawang taong ROTC.
“Now is the opportune time to re-institutionalize the basic military and officer training for our tertiary students. By this legislation, we provide the appropriate training to ensure their readiness to respond to the call of service,” giit ni Gatchalian.
