Citibank opens 3-peat bid with huge win

Reigning back-to-back Inter-Foreign Bank League (IFBL) champion Citibank issued an early warning to the rest of the field on Saturday (October 4) in the form of a resounding 93-54 victory over Capital One at the Homecourt Gym in Mandaluyong City.

Citibank broke the game open right in the first quarter, racing to a commanding 37-11 lead behind the guns of John Michael Adamos, Christopher Borja, Sam Ace Gonzales and Mark Bautista.

Adamos, who led Citibank with 23 points, hit two three-pointers early to set the tone while Borja, Gonzales and Bautista conspired in a 19-0 run late in the first period to put Capital One away.

The peppery Adamos continued to torture Capital One in the second period, pouring in eight more points as Citibank took a 55-18 lead.

When he’s not scoring, Adamos was busy disrupting Capital One’s offense. He finished with seven rebounds and four steals.

Gian Hidalgo, Jammy Lawas and Reyn Adolfo carried much of the load for Capital One, scoring 83% of their team’s output with a combined 45 points.

Navarrete shoots down JP Morgan

Justin Frederick Navarrete scattered 13 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter as Deutsche Knowledge Services got some measure of revenge against JP Morgan Chase & Co., 66-53, on Saturday (October 4) in the IFBL.

Deutsche settled for runner-up finishes twice to JP Morgan in The Net Group (TNG), but made sure that the marquee opening day match up at the Homecourt Gym in Mandaluyong City would be about settling an old score.

A huge second quarter gave Deutsche a double-digit spread, but JP Morgan slowly but surely got back into the game behind a strong defensive effort in the third.

JP Morgan’s disruptive defense held Deutsche to just four field goals in the entire third period to pull within striking distance.

With an old nemesis hot on its trail, Deutsche turned to Navarrete for some cold-blooded shooting. The prolific swingman didn’t disappoint, dousing JP Morgan’s rally with three triples early in the fourth.

The win gave Deutsche a piece of early lead in the standings with defending back-to-back champ Citibank.

SCB holds off Macquarie

SCB survived a dominant performance from Macquarie big man Shane Clarke to escape with a 74-70 victory in the IFBL on Saturday (October 4) at the Homecourt Gym in Mandaluyong City.

Clarke finished with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds, pumping in 13 in the fourth period as he single-handedly tried to rally his team.

But SCB proved steadier down the stretch to pull off the win and join fellow opening day winners Citibank and Deutsche Knowledge Services on top of the standings.
