IN ONE fleeting moment against CBPS, Cholo Legisma personified TR-CP’s dominance in the inaugural McKinley Hill Invitational.
The peppery guard scored seven straight points to key his team’s third quarter breakaway en route to a 79-53 win at the Dumlao Gym in Shaw Boulevard.
Legisma first knocked down a triple then scored consecutive baskets in transition to give TR-CP a 49-25 lead. His personal 7-0 blitz highlighted his team’s 15-5 run to start the second half and forced CBPS to call a timeout.
The 5-foot-3 Legisma, a former varsity chess player of De La Salle University, led TR-CP’s balanced scoring with 15 points followed by James Gregorio with 14. TR-CP big men Ian Ples and Aaron Molo chipped in 12 and 10, respectively.
CBPS tried to keep pace with TR-CP in the first half by clogging the interior. Ples, a dominant figure in TR-CP’s previous wins, was held in check for most of the half.
Six-foot slotman Alvin Consignado gave CBPS something to cheer about in the early goings by blocking Ples on two straight plays. CBPS, however, struggled to find its rhythm offensively as TR-CP built a 34-20 halftime lead.
TR-CP extended its unbeaten start to four games while CBPS absorbed its fourth straight loss. A win against HP-FCS in its next outing would give TR-CP a sweep of the elimination and a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinal.
In other games, Factset banked on the troika of Ivan Belsa, Aldrin Javier and Joseph Santiago to beat HP-FCS, 75-62, and seize sole possession of second spot while Statestreet HCL used a huge third quarter to pull away against EBT en route to a 61-50 win. Noli Cruz
