CULTURE OF VIGILANCE LAUNCHED IN MARIKINA

A new culture spreads in Marikina City.

A culture of vigilance against crime called “Bantay Lahat, Lahat Bantay” introduced by its Chief of Police, PSSupt. Vincent S. Calanoga.

This new campaign of the local police is fully supported by Marikina Mayor Del R. de Guzman, Vice-Mayor Jose Fabian I. Cadiz, and Councilor Frankie Ayuson, chairman of the City Peace and Order Council.

In its Peace and Order Congress held at the Marikina Convention Center yesterday, Calanoga said that this new culture is in line with the doctrine in community policing — The police is the community and the community is the police. “The whole Marikina community shall claim ownership of this campaign plan including its success or failure,” he said.

De Guzman, on the other hand, said that this new tact was a tried and tested formula which worked wonders for the police because they endeared themselves to Marikenyos through their house-to-house visits where they interacted with residents in crime-prone communities and gave away calling cards with emergency nos. and hotlines for residents to call with leads and tips on crimes and criminals.

As a result of the partnership between the police and the community, Crime Solution Efficiency rating jumped to 84%, from 59% in May and 70% in June. PCInsp. Eduardo S. Cayetano proudly declared that in all apprehensions, 100% were filed in court with the help of the city prosecutors and the regional trial court judges.

The success in the fight against crime emboldened the police and city officials to hold the congress so that the different sectors of Marikina society can be informed about the positive developments and to inculcate in them this new culture of vigilance against crime.

“We can fight back against crime! The key is vigilance and the mechanism by which the community can send vital information to the police.

“We have shown in the past 2 months that cooperation and collaboration will lead to positive results.

“Hopefully, this confidence building exercise nurtures and enhances the trust and confidence our people have for our local police and give them the courage to report leads and tips that will lead to apprehensions,” De Guzman said. ABISO/Paul Edward P. Sison
