MATAPOS ang madamdaming State Of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III ay muling nagsama-sama ang magkakapatid na Aquino.
Sa pagkakataong ito ay sa Manila Memorial Park, Paranaque City upang gunitain ang ika-limang death anniversary ng kanilang ina na si dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino.
Si Pangulong Aquino at ang kanyang tatlong presidential sisters na sina Maria Elena “Ballsy” Aquino-Cruz, Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Aquino-Abellada at ang Tv-host/actress na si Kristina Bernadette Cojuangco Aquino-Yap ay nakasuot ng dilaw na damit kasama ang ilang miyembro ng gabinete ng una at ilang kamag-anak at kaibigan sa libingan ng dating Pangulo.
Sa kalatas na ipinalabas ni Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda ay hinikayat nito ang sambayanang Fililpino na tularan ang pagiging matuwid ni Mrs. Aquino na magtayo ng matatag na demokrasya sa bansa.
“Let us remember the virtues for which she is best known and which have endeared her to the public—the courage with which she adopted the fight for democracy; the humility which she maintained throughout her presidency; and the compassion with which she considered the needs of all Filipinos,” ayon kay Sec. Lacierda.
Naging tanyag si Pangulong Cory sa larangan ng politika matapos na pataksil na patayin ang kanyang namayapang asawa na si dating Senador Benigno Aquino, Jr. noong Agosto 21, 1983.
Ito ang naging ugat upang magkaisa ang sambayanang Filipino na laban ang diktadoryang liderato ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos.
“In the years leading up to the 1986 EDSA Revolution, President Cory embodied the country’s struggle for freedom—a struggle that continued during her presidency as she sought to undo the mistakes of the past and establish safeguards to ensure that the country never falls under a dictatorship again. Even after her presidency, she remained active in the country’s affairs—a true icon of democracy not just in name but in actions—and supported various social projects as well as charitable institutions. Five years after her death, we still see clearly how her life proves that the Filipino is worth living for,” ani Sec. Lacierda.
