TINULIGSA ng maimpluwensyang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang pagpatay ng mga grupo ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) sa may 43 miyembro ng Philippine National Police- Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) sa Mamasapano, Maguindanao noong Linggo, Enero 25.
Ngunit hindi umano dahilan ito upang hindi na suportahan ng CBCP ang usapang pangkapayapaan sa rehiyon.
“While the CBCP vehemently condemns this act of violence against human life no matter what the avowed purpose of such violence may be, we cannot side with those who call for the discontinuance of peace talks,” ani CBCP President at Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
Sa halip aniya ay dapat na higit pang pabilisin ang usapang pangkapayapaan upang matigil na ang mga walang saysay na pagdanak ng dugo sa rehiyon.
“If anything,” ani Villegas, “the sad incident underscores the necessity and the urgency of arriving at a solution that is not rushed but that is inclusive, principled and just to all.”
Nagpahayag rin naman ng pakikiramay ang CBCP sa mga naulila ng mga biktimang pulis.
Nanawagan rin ito sa mga mananampalataya na ipanalangin ang mga biktima at kanilang mga pamilya na makahanap sila ng kaginhawahan mula sa pangako ng Panginoon na lahat ng nananampalataya ay hindi mawawala sa kanyang kalinga.
“With profound sorrow but with faith in the Resurrection, the CBCP mourns with the families of the gallant policemen, victims of an utterly senseless act of violence in Mindanao, already weary from battle and conflict,” ani Villegas. MACS BORJA
