RORY MCILROY hit two birds with one stone on Sunday (Monday morning in Manila), winning the Bridgestone Invitational and reclaiming the No. 1 spot in the world golf ranking.
“My goal now until the end of the year is to try to win as many golf tournaments as I can,” McIlroy said. “It’s not to try to finish No. 1 in the world. It’s just to get as many titles as possible.”
The victory was his third of the year and returned him to No. 1 in the world for the first time since March of last year.
McIlroy joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win a major and a World Golf Championship in consecutive starts.
He went into the final round at Firestone three shots behind, but quickly took the lead with birdies on the opening three holes and a bogey on No. 3 from overnight leader Sergio Garcia. Noli Cruz
