THE Golden State Warriors rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the New Orleans Pelicans, 97-87, and take a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series on Monday (Tuesday morning in Manila).
A big burst before halftime pushed the Warriors ahead after the Pelicans took an early lead behind the strong start of Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon.
Klay Thompson scored 26 points and Stephen Curry added 22 and six assists to lead the Warriors. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Thursday night (Friday morning in Manila) in New Orleans.
Davis had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Gordon scored 23 points for the Pelicans.
Golden State turned up the NBA’s top-rated defense late, holding the Pelicans to 35 points in the second half. New Orleans shot just 37.8 percent for the game.
In the other playoff game, the Chicago Bulls banked on the hot hands of Jimmy Butler to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks, 91-82, and seize a 2-0 lead in their own series.
Butler netted a playoff career-high for the second straight game with 31 points, 14 coming in the fourth quarter. Noli Cruz
