CP3, Griffin lead Clips over Spurs

CHRIS PAUL and Blake Griffin combined for 58 points to power the Los Angeles Clippers past the San Antonio Spurs, 107-92, in a riveting first-round matchup in the NBA playoffs on Sunday night (Monday morning in Manila).

Both teams were hot entering the postseason. Los Angeles won 14 of its final 15 games to finish with 56 victories and the West’s third-best record, while San Antonio won 14 of 16 and 11 straight before the season finale.

But with Paul scoring 32 points and Griffin doubling up with 26 points and 12 rebounds, the Clippers proved too much for the Spurs in the second half.

Jamal Crawford added 17 points as the Clippers stayed comfortably ahead down the stretch, meeting the defending champs’ challenge.

Game 2 is Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Manila).

In other playoff results, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics, 113-100; the Memphis Grizzlies routed the Portland Trailblazers, 100-86; and the Atlanta Hawks held off the Brooklyn Nets, 99-92. Noli Cruz
